On the day of Basant Panchami, Rajput emperor Prithviraj Chauhan sacrificed himself by killing Mohammad Ghori with the help of a sharp arrow.

As soon as we take the name of Basant, goosebumps start. In this season, the light breeze cools the mind, the warmly quilted sunshine, the new flowers appearing on the trees and the butterflies sitting on the flowers, calms the mind.

In the spring season, the festival of Basant Panchami is celebrated on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha. People know the day of Basant Panchami as the manifestation day of Maa Saraswati and worship her on this day. But there's an adventurous incident happened on Basant Panchami which narrates a tale of bravery of a Rajput emperor.

The day of Basant Panchami also reminds of Prithviraj Chauhan. Prithviraj Chauhan was the last Hindu emperor to the throne of Delhi. This Kshatriya emperor was very kind and forgiving. He defeated the foreign invader Mohammad Ghori 16 times in battle and left him alive every time showing generosity. But when he was defeated for the seventeenth time, Mohammad Ghori did not show mercy on him.

He took the emperor with him to Afghanistan and blew off his eyes. After some time Prithviraj Chauhan's childhood friend and poet Chand Bardai went to Afghanistan to meet him. Arriving there, Bardai told Mohammad Ghori about Prithviraj's art of playing his speech. But Ghori did not believe his words and wanted to see the wonder of his rhetorical arrows.

According to the plan, Chand Bardai gave arrows to Prithviraj and told Ghori to see this art with his own eyes. Foolish Mohammad Ghori did the same. When Prithviraj Chauhan got the arrow in his hand, Chand Bardai said four lines in front of Prithviraj Chauhan.

Four bamboo twenty four yards,

Angul Ashta proof,

Above is the sultan,

Don't miss Chauhan.

Prithviraj Chauhan shot an arrow as soon as he heard the words and the arrow went straight into the chest of Mohammad Ghori. After this, Chand Bardai and Prithviraj also sacrificed themselves by stabbing each other in the stomach. The day when this incident happened in 1192 AD was the day of Basant Panchami
