With Rising Covid-19 Cases, DGCA Issues Fresh Guidelines For Travelers

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation issued new guidelines for air travelers as the nation sees a rise in daily Covid-19 cases. Passengers will be fined for not following the new rules.

On Wednesday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued fresh travel guidelines for air passengers in view of rising Covid-19 cases in the country. As per the fresh guidelines, not wearing masks at the airport and on the flights will attract a penalty. 

In the fresh guidelines, the DGCA stated, "The airlines shall ensure that all passengers are wearing face masks properly and continue to wear the mask throughout the journey. The face masks can be removed under exceptional circumstances and for permitted reasons only." 

Further, the DGCA also mentioned in the guidelines that if any passenger is found without wearing of masks, they will be removed from the flight for not implying with the Covid-19 protocol.

The guidelines issued by the DGCA 

In the recent directives that are issued as per Delhi High Court's order on June 3, the DGCA said, "In case, any passenger on board an aircraft refuses to wear a mask or violates the 'Covid Protocol for passengers' even after repeated warnings, during the course of the flight, such passenger may be treated as 'Unruly Passenger'."

The order issued by the Delhi High Court 

The Delhi High Court has issued an order stating that if any air passenger is found not following the Covid-19 appropriate behavior, then such passengers will be booked, fined, and will be put on the no-fly list. 

The court's order reads, "If the passenger refuses to follow protocol despite reminders, action should be taken under health ministry or DGCA guidelines." "The DGCA should issue separate binding directions to all staff persons deployed at the airports and in the aircraft, including flight attendants, air hostesses, captains/pilots, and others, to take strict action against passengers and others who violate the masking and hygiene norms."
