From March 19, the 35th International Surajkund Handicrafts Mela has inaugurated in Faridabad, Haryana and will continue to run till April 4. This year's partner state for the fair is Jammu and Kashmir. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, this fair could not be organized for the last two years, so this time there is a lot of craze among the people regarding this fair. Strict security arrangements have been made in the fair and surveillance is being done by drones. 

While addressing the press conference, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar stated that artists from 20 countries will be taking part in the fair, where e-Ticketing will be made available this time, reported the TOI. 

75 years of Independence 

As per Haryana Tourism department’s website, "thousands of visitors attend the Surajkund Mela every year, as it showcases the richness and diversity of the handlooms, handicrafts, and cultural fabric of India, and is the world’s largest crafts fair." 

On the completion of 75 years of independence, this time the fair has been dedicated to the Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The glimpse of the event is also visible at the entrance gates, monuments. More than 1100 handicraftsmen from across the country have come to the fair which is spreading over 43.5 acres of land to showcase the rich handicrafts, handloom and cultural heritage of the country together on a single platform. 

When to Visit? 

Timings: 12:30 PM to 9:30 PM 

Eight parking lots have been built at the fair. Three additional parking facilities have been provided on weekends. Seven VIP parking has been made available for the visitors in the fair. More than 350 CCTV cameras have been installed in the fair premises for security arrangements. A team of commandos equipped with mobile jammers, bomb disposal squads, automatic machine guns have also been deployed in the fair.
