Kolkata to Dhaka, Mitali Express Passenger Train Flags Off
Mitali Express Passenger Train will connect India's Kolkata to Dhaka in Bangladesh.

On Wednesday, an official of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) said that the railway ministers of the two countries have virtually flagged off New Jalpaiguri - Dhaka Mitali Express Passenger Train. With this, the passengers will be able to enjoy better connectivity between the two countries. This will be the third passenger train for smooth connectivity between India and Bangladesh.
The train performed its inaugural run from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station in West Bengal. The two countries are having well-connected train facility which is operational by Maitree Express Train and Bandhan Express Train to connect Kolkata with Dhaka and Khulna respectively.

The inauguration of the Mitali Express Train
On the inauguration of the Mitali Express, NFR spokesperson Sabyasachi De said, "Indian Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and his Bangladeshi counterpart Md Nurul Islam Sujan from Delhi virtually flagged off the inaugural run of the Mitali Express at 09:20 am on Wednesday."
Train to be operational twice a week
Train number 13132, the New Jalpaiguri-Dhaka Cantonment train will be operating at 11:45 am IST, twice a week on Sundays and Wednesdays. While the train number 13131, Dhaka Cantonment-New Jalpaiguri, Mitali Express will be operational at 09:15 pm Bangladeshi Standard Time every Monday and Thursday.
Sharing the video of the inaugural ceremony on Twitter, Ashwini Vaishnaw wrote, "India & Bangladesh Towards shared heritage, shared present and shared future! Flagged off "Mitali Express" between New Jalpaiguri (India) and Dhaka (Bangladesh) with His Excellency Md Nurul Islam Sujan."

The train will cover a distance of 595 km
The Mitali Express Passenger train will cover a distance of 595 km between NJP and Dhaka on a 69 km long track length in India and the rest of it laying in Bangladesh. The train will operate with four fully air-conditioned cabin coaches, and four fully air-conditioned chair cars and it will be hauled by a locomotive diesel locomotive.
Suvendhu Kumar Chaudhury, DRM, Katihar division of Northeast Frontier Railway said, "We are ready to start the services, the train is ready with maximum facilities. Around 15-20 passengers have already booked their tickets for the first journey. It is a direct car service, with no pantry-car facility."
