On Monday, the history is created by Indian women’s hockey team as they defeated Australia 1-0 to book their place in the semi-final for the first time in the Olympics. In the second quarter Gurjit Kaur’s goal from a penalty corner was enough for India to win the quarter-final against Australia.

For the first time, the women's hockey team has reached semi-final round. In 1980, the team finished at number four, although there were no semi-final matches at that time. The top-3 teams were decided on the basis of pool matches. Earlier, the Indian men's team also kept the medal hopes alive by reaching the semi-finals.

Apart from hockey, more medals can also come in India's bag, female discus throw athlete Kamalpreet Kaur will play her final match, with which she can get India one more medal. Kamalpreet shocked the whole world by throwing a throw of 64 meters in the qualification of women's discus throw. That's why his medal hopes have gone up. Female sprinter Dutee Chand finished seventh in the 200m heat four and missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals.
