Pakistan Cricket Board Replaces Injured Shaheen Afridi Ahead of Asia Cup 2022

On Monday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced to replace the name of Shaheen Shah Afridi for the Asia Cup 2022, which is set to begin on Saturday in the UAE. Afridi is replaced by Mohammad Hasnain. Last week, Afridi was ruled out of the competition in the wake of being prompted a 4-5 week rest by the clinical group following a physical issue to the right knee tendon during the last Test in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan will start their Asia Cup crusade against its most despised rival India in Dubai on Sunday while their second Group An apparatus will be against a qualifier (UAE, Kuwait, Singapore, or Hong Kong) in Sharjah on September 2. The Super Four matches will be played from 3-9 September.

The official statement by PCB
“Hasnain will join the side from the United Kingdom, where he is representing Oval Invincibles in The Hundred competition,” the PCB statement read.
“Meanwhile, Asif Ali, Haider Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Usman Qadir will leave for Dubai in the wee hours of Tuesday. They will replace Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Haris, Salman Ali Agha, and Zahid Mehmood, who were part of the 16-member ODI squad against the Netherlands,” it added further.

Shaheed Afridi got injured during Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Test match
On Saturday, the PCB expressed that Shaheen was governed out of the Asia Cup 2022 and home series against England yet is supposed to get back to serious cricket in October with the New Zealand T20I tri-series, which will be trailed by the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Australia 2022. He had experienced a right knee tendon injury while handling during the principal Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.
