A recent study conducted by Indiana University US, has suggested that Moderna’s vaccine for Covid-19 is significantly more effective against the Delta variant of the SARS-CoV2 virus than Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson. The study was published in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. It suggests that Moderna was 95% effective at preventing hospitalisation among adults ages 18 and older.

Researcher Shaun Grannis from Indiana University,US said, "These real-world data show that vaccines remain highly effective at reducing Covid-19 related hospitalisation and emergency department visits, even in the presence of the new Covid-19 variant." Further he added, "We strongly recommend vaccinations for all who are eligible to reduce serious illness and ease the burden on our healthcare system."

The study found that Pfizer was 80% effective at preventing hospitalization among adults ages 18 and older. Whereas, Johnson & Johnson was 60% effective. The results also claimed that unvaccinated individuals with Covid-19 are 5-7 times more likely to need emergency department care or hospitalization, similar to the overall effectiveness prior to the variant.
