Every year, Makar Sankranti is celebrated on 14 January all over the country. The festival marks the arrival of spring and the first Hindu harvest festival in the country. People worship the Sun God on this day and enjoy flying kites. Apart from this, many traditional dishes are prepared on this day. As per Hindu calendar, on this day the Sun enters the Makar (Capricorn) sign.
