Indian Army is celebrating its 74th Raising Day today. Indian Army Day is celebrated every year on 15 January in the country. On this day in 1949, Field Marshal KM Cariappa took over the command of the Indian Army from General Francis Butcher. Francis Butcher was the last British Commander-in-Chief of India. Field Marshal KM Cariappa became the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. This day is celebrated every year to commemorate Cariappa taking over as the top commander of the Indian Army. Cariappa was the first officer to get the rank of Field Marshal. On Army Day, the whole country remembers the indomitable courage of the army, their valor and sacrifice.
The Indian Army
The Indian Army was formed in 1776 by the East India Company in Kolkata. The Indian Army is included in the world's three largest army along with China and America. 'Operation Rahat' in 2013 was the world's largest civilian rescue operation to rescue the flood victims of Uttarakhand.
The Celebration
The day is celebrated in New Delhi and all Army Headquarters with military parades, military exhibitions and other official events. Army personnel and squads of various regiments are paraded. On this day, salute is also given to all those brave warriors who have made their supreme sacrifice for the welfare of their country and people at some point or the other.
