Every year, January 1 is observed as the Global Family Day, also known as World Peace Day across the globe. The day is celebrated to spread awareness about the idea of global unity and harmony in the minds of people.
History of the Day
In 1997, the vision of celebrating the Global Family Day came from a Children’s book in which a vision of a day was described as where there's only be peace and no war. The book was titled, ‘One Day In Peace – January 1, 2000.’ The United Nations General Assembly launched the International Decade for the Culture of Peace and Non-violence for the Children of the World.
In 1999, the members of the United Nations received an invitation to formally celebrate the first day of the year as Global Family Day. However, in 2001, seeing the success and the impact of the day, it was announced to be celebrated as an annual event.
Significance of the Day
The Global Family Day is celebrated in order to promote peace among all nations and religions across the world. A world which consists of different cultures, it becomes important for all cultures to find a place to breathe and exist in harmony.
