The festival of Dhanteras also known as Dhantrayodashi is celerated by Hindus to worship the God of Ayurveda, Dhanvantari, who is an avatar of Lord Vishnu. The word "Dhanteras" is referred as "Dhan" means wealth and "Teras" means thirteen. According to the Hindu calendar, Dhanteras is celebrated on the thirteenth day of Krishna Paksha in Ashwin month. 

Date of the festival 

In 2021, Dhanteras is being celebrated on November 2. The holy festival is a part of the Diwali celebrations which in 2021 will start on November 2 and end on November 6. 

Auspicious Time 

For the year 2021, the Shubh Muhurat to celebrate Dhanteras begins around 5.42 pm and ends by 7.31 pm. 

Puja Vidhi 

On the day of Dhanteras, devotees buy several products specifically utensils and broomsticks. The items are offered to Lord Dhanvantari for the puja rituals. For this occasion, devotees also purchase gold and silver items such as jewellery, coins, and bars. 

Significance of the festival 

In  the Hindu mythology, Lord Dhanvantari is considered as the god of Ayurvedic medicine. He is believed to be the healer of all ailments. As per Hindu mythology, " During Samudra Manthan, Lord Dhanvantari, a physician of the gods appeared before the Devas and the Asuras. He held Amrita the nectar of immortality (Amrit) and the text called Ayurveda.
