The tithi of Aja Ekadashi tithi falls three days after the celebration of Krishna Janmashtami in Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha. This year, it will be celebrated on September 3 i.e, Friday. Devotees worship Lord Vishnu to get rid of their previous sins. The Aja Ekadashi holds  great importance in the Hindu tradition. The Ekadashi fast is observed without intaking a single drop of water. It is believed that by observing this fast, the devotees get blessed by Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.

Date and Auspicious Time

In 2021, Aja Ekadashi will be celebrated on September 3. As per Hindu calendar, the Ekadashi Tithi will begin on September 2 at 6:21 am to 07:44 am on September 3. The Ekadashi Vrat will be observed on September 3 and the Parana will be done on September 4 between 06:01 am to 08:24 am.

Fasting Method

The devotees willing to observe the Ekadashi fast wake up early in the morning before sunrise and take a holy bath with kusha grass, sesame and clay. Lord Vishnu’s puja begins by keeping grains in a pure and divine place. An earthen pot (kalash) decorated with red colour and loaded with grains is fixed.

The idol of Lord Vishnu is placed on top of the earthen pot and devotees observing the fast take the resolution of fasting on Aja Ekadashi and worship Lord Vishnu by lighting incense and lamps. Bhog and flowers are also offered to Lord Vishnu and the fast is observed for the whole day without consuming water.
