On Tuesday, June 28, five more people succumbed to the deteriorated flood conditions in Assam, and 24.92 lakh people are still suffering from the worsened conditions. It has been more than a week that most parts of Silchar in the Cachar district are under water. 

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather conditions are likely to remain favorable in the areas of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi for the next 48 hours.

Monsoon to reach Delhi in a day or two 

As per IMD, the national capital is likely to witness rainfall from Wednesday evening and monsoon rainfall is expected to materialize between June 30 and July 1. Usually, the southwest monsoon arrives in Delhi by June 27. 

IMD's Senior Scientist R K Jenamani shared with news agency PTI that the national capital is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall on June 30. By Thursday or Friday, the arrival of monsoon will be declared in the city. For the next 24 hours, conditions are favorable for the advance of the monsoon into Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttar Pradesh. He said, "We expect the conditions to remain favorable for the further advance of monsoon in the remaining parts of UP, HP, J-K, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi in the subsequent 48 hours."

Red Alert in North Bengal 

The IMD has issued a red alert in North Bengal as in the upcoming couple of days high intercity rainfall is likely to occur in several districts of West Bengal. The weather department said that Cooch Behar has reported the highest rainfall in the state till 8:30 am on Tuesday at 230 mm. 

Meanwhile, as per the weather agency, there is a possibility of heavy rain taking place at the isolated places in Gangetic West Bengal till Thursday morning. The sub-Himalayan districts of Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, and Kalimpong districts are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall till Thursday morning.
