This year, in the month of June, the monsoon has arrived in Southern India three days prior to its expected date. However, in Kerala, the monsoon is moving very slowly. Meanwhile, the national capital is again witnessing soaring temperatures and heatwave conditions. 

On Sunday, the weather department at Thiruvananthapuram said that compared to the first few days of monsoon in the last years, the rain deficient is 50% this year. As per the reports, an official from the weather department said, "the monsoon has not reached its active mode yet. There hasn't been any active weather system and no strong winds, because of which we are only seeing light rain in the state", quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

Heatwave Conditions in Delhi 

On Sunday, the national capital recorded the maximum temperature crossing 45 degrees Celsius. With this, Delhi has also witnessed heatwave conditions. At the base station, Safdarjung Observatory, the maximum temperature was recorded at 44.2 degrees Celsius which remained 43.9 degrees Celsius on Saturday, and 42.9 degrees Celsius on Friday. 

In a tweet, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, "i) Intense spell of rainfall likely to continue over Northeast India and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during next 5 days. ii) Heat Wave Conditions in isolated pockets over Northwest, Central & adjoining East India during next 3-4 days."

Yellow Alert in Delhi 

The Met Department has issued a "yellow" alert in the national capital with a warning of heatwave conditions to prevail on Monday at isolated places. The Vice President (Climate Change and Meteorology) at Skymet Weather said, "Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, North Rajasthan, and West Uttar Pradesh may see pre-monsoon activity on and off from June 10. The maximum temperature in the capital may drop to 40-41 degrees Celsius by Saturday."
