Pongal 2023: Tamil Nadu Schools closed till January 18 due to Pongal festival

In honour of Pongal 2023, Tamil Nadu Government has declared a public holiday in the state from January 15, 2023 onwards. As per these orders, Tamil Nadu Schools will remain closed from today, January 15, 2023 onwards till January 18, 2023 due to the Pongal festival.
Pongal is a traditional harvest festival observed in Southern India, mainly in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. For Pongal 2023, the celebration will take place over the next four days - January 15, 16, 17 and 18, 2023.
Pongal is mainly celebrated by the people of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. On this occasion, people decorate their homes, make sweet dishes and enjoy the huge event with their family and friends.
Pongal marks the beginning of what is called the Thai Month. People from Tamil Nadu believe that the Thai Month brings positive change to their lives and helps them overcome their problems. The four days of Pongal are - Bhogi Pongal, Thai Pongal, Mattu Pongal and Kannum Pongal.
Meanwhile, schools are also closed in northern parts of the country due to extreme cold wave conditions. State governments have declared closure of schools for Class 1 to 7.
