On Monday, May 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the benefits of the PM CARES for Children Scheme for children who lost their parents due to Covid-19. In the scheme, an amount of Rs. 4,000 will be provided to the child every month for basic needs, financial assistance for schooling, scholarships for higher education, and free of cost treatment of up to Rs. 5 lakh. 

In the statement, PM Modi said, "I know how difficult the situation is for people who have lost their family members during the Covid-19 pandemic. This program is for children who lost their parents during the pandemic. If a child needs an educational loan for professional courses, for higher education, then PM-CARES will help in that too."

The PM CARES for Children Scheme 

The PM CARES for Children Scheme will benefit children 18 to 23 years of age, whose parents died during the Covid-19 pandemic. Apart from the monthly stipend, these children will be provided with Rs. 10 Lakh after attaining 23 years of age. 

PM CARES for Children Scheme is an initiative by the government of India which was launched by PM Modi in May 2021. The objective behind launching this initiative was to ensure comprehensive care and protection of children who lost their both parents or legal guardians or adoptive parents or surviving parents during the Covid-19 outbreak. In order to avail of the facility of free treatment, the Ayushman Health Card will be issued so that they will be able to get free of cost health treatment of up to Rs. 5 Lakh.

While making the announcement of the PM CARES for Children Scheme, PM Modi stated, "No effort or support can replace the affection of your parents. In their absence, 'Maa Bharti' is with you. India is fulfilling this through PM CARES. This isn't just a mere effort of one individual, institution, or government. In PM CARES, people have added their hard-earned money", quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
