MIS-C: Outbreak affecting children in Delhi NCR

In Delhi NCR 177 cases have been recorded for children affected with Multi-system Inflammatory Syndrome.

The disease named as Multi-system Inflammatory Syndrome is spreading among children in Delhi NCR. As far, 177 cases have been registered related to this disease. Out of 177, 109 belonged to Delhi and 68 belonged to Gurugram and Faridabad.

As per the health report, The patient suffers from fever after suffering from MIS-C. The symptoms include fever, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, skin and nails discoloration to blueish color. Children in the age group of 6 months to 15 years are the most affected.

The elected president of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics Intensive Care Chapter, Dr. Dhiren Gupta says, "Severe infection of Covid-19 in children brings two changes - The child may have pneumonia or may have MIS-C condition." He added, "In the early stages, identification can help in treating the problem on time."

Data from the Indian Academy of Paediatrics Intensive Care Chapter shows that more than two thousand cases of this disease have occurred during the first wave of Covid-19.

Dr. Gunjan Kela, head of the paediatric department of SAIMS, said that "this syndrome can affect various organs including lungs, nervous system and heart."
