Karnataka: Two children contracted Black Fungus
Unaware of Covid-19 infection, two children have contracted Black Fungus disease.

As per the reports till now Black Fungus or Mucormycosis was affecting adults only. However, in rural Karnataka two cases of Mucormycosis have been detected among children.
A girl who is 11 years old from Ballari district and a boy who is 14 years old from Chitradurga district have been found infected with the fungal disease. They are in a serious condition and their treatment is going on at government hospitals.
A health official said that they had got infected with Covid-19 earlier and later complications of Black Fungus have developed.

As quoted by PTI, a senior official said, "Two children are undergoing treatment for the black fungus infection at Government Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospitals. They are suffering from Acute Juvenile Diabetes (AJD)."
1,250 cases of the rare fungal disease have been recorded by the state health department. Out of which 1,193 are under treatment, 18 are cured and 39 have lost their lives.
Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar, quoted that "The state has so far received around 10,000 vials of Amphotericin-B drug used for the treatment of the fungal infection, from the centre. In government hospitals, we are providing the treatment and medicine free of cost."
