On Monday, the temperature in Delhi-NCR reached 40.9 degrees Celsius, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The national capital has witnessed the seventh heatwave on Monday which is the highest since April 2010.  

Heatwave conditions on April 18 and April 19 

In the recent bulletin, the IMD said, "Heatwave conditions in isolated pockets very likely to prevail over Delhi and adjacent areas on 18th and 19th. It is likely to abate thereafter due to approaching Western Disturbance, wind conditions, and cloudiness over some parts of these areas." 

As reported by Hindustan Times, Delhi people had faced 11 heatwaves in April 2010 and 6 heatwaves in April 2017. 

Whenever the maximum temperature reaches above 40 degrees Celsius or 4.5 degrees above the normal it is considered a heatwave. A severe heatwave is declared whenever the maximum temperature goes above 40 degrees Celsius or 6.5 degrees above the normal.

Rainfall with strong winds is expected after April 19 

IMD scientist RK Jenamani said, "Delhi has already recorded seven heatwave days in April so far and the eighth such day is expected on Tuesday, with the maximum temperature to hover around 42 degrees Celsius. However, we can expect a temporary respite from Wednesday onwards, with gusty winds expected from the evening onwards, with parts also receiving a drizzle", quoted as saying by News 18. 

As per the weather prediction by IMD, there will be light isolated rainfall in the national capital between April 19 to April 22. There is also a possibility of strong gusty winds with a speed of 25-35 kmph on April 19 and April 20.
