India reported 42,015 new cases and 3,998 deaths in the last 24 hours.

On Wednesday, India reported 42,015 new cases and 3,998 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to data updated by the health ministry. The recovery rate has increased to 97.36 %. The daily positivity rate is at 2.27 %, less than 3 % for 30 straight days in a major sign of relief. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared the Covid positivity rate below 5 % to be within the safe zone.
Active Covid caseload have declined to 4.07 lakh in India, the infections are going down each day. Active cases constitute 1.30 % of total infections. 36,977 patients recovered in the last 24 hours taking the caseload of total recoveries so far to over 3.04 crore.
Experts' concern
Amidst the decline in corona infection cases, record of more than 2 thousand daily deaths in the last 24 hours have raised the concern of health experts. For the first time in the month of this July, less number of deaths have been recorded. Simultaneously, new corona cases are registered at the lowest after 118 days. Active cases also reached the lowest level after 109 days.

On Tuesday, India's caseload stood at 40,000 a day after the country reported the lowest daily cases since March 16. In the Northeast, new cases in Mizoram rose to 806, while Manipur recorded 1,127.
The highest number were counted in the state at 1,171 people on last Saturday. The numbers were also higher in Arunachal (508), Meghalaya (500) and Tripura (488).
