Covid-19 updates: Country reports 40,134 fresh cases in the last 24 hours

On Monday, India has reported 40,134 fresh positive cases of the Covid-19 infection in the last 24 hours, a government statement. 422 deaths are reported in the same period, according to the federal health ministry. 

With new cases the total caseload of Covid-19 infection in the country stands at 3,16,95,958 along with total recoveries at 3,08,57,467. Death toll has now reached to 4,24,773, according to data released by Health Ministry. At present there are 4,13,718 active cases in the country. 

"46,96,45,494 samples tested till 1st August 2021, for Covid-19. Of these 14,28,984 samples were tested yesterday", stated by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). 

With the addition of 290 new cases of coronavirus, the infection count in Maharashtra's Thane district has reached 5,45,051, an official said on Monday. 

"India is likely to see a rise in Covid-19 infections building into a new though smaller virus wave that may peak in October", according to a mathematical model by researchers who accurately predicted the tapering of a brutal surge of cases earlier this year.
