Kolkata: Metro to restart Token Service from Nov 25
The Kolkata metro has decided to restart the token service from November 25.

The Kolkata Metro has decided to restart the token services for passengers. The token service was discontinued last year as metro services shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic, said an official on Tuesday. Last year, the metro services were resumed in September and the Metro had made smart cards mandatory when it restarted services after travel restrictions were eased.
The Metro official said, "Tokens are going to be re-introduced on the North-South and East-West lines from November 25." "These tokens will be issued from the counters of all stations as earlier for the convenience of commuters", he added.
He said that apart from the ticket counters, passengers can purchase the tokens from automatic smart card recharge machines. The Metro authorities requested regular commuters to continue using smart cards for availing services. It said that the commuters will continue to get a 10 per cent bonus on the ride value of the smart cards and will also be able to recharge these online.
As per a report published in the Times of India (TOI), "Metro’s general manager Manoj Joshi had promised to reintroduce tokens, given the reduction in the number of Covid-19 cases in the city. He made this statement at the Metro Railway Users Consultative Committee (MRUCC) meeting held on November 9, 2021."
