In a recent development, the World Health Organization (WHO) said that travel bans are ineffective for the spread of Covid-19 and its variants. It has suggested to either lift or ease the travel restrictions. As per WHO, these travel bans can worsen the economy and increase social stress.

On Wednesday, the WHO has recommended this development at the International Health Regulations Emergency Committee on Covid-19. As per report, the travel bans and restrictions should be removed as “they do not provide added value and continue to contribute to the economic and social stress experienced”.

The report by WHO also states that travel restrictions are ineffective. The safety measures including RT-PCR testing, masking, isolation/quarantine, and vaccination should be based on risk assessments to avoid unnecessary financial burden on international travelers.
