More than 40,000 commuters have been fined worth Rs 1 crore for ticketless travelling on the suburban network in the Mumbai local trains. As per the guidelines issued by the state government, only people who have taken double dose of Covid-19 vaccine are allowed to travel in local trains.

As per media reports, over 3 lakh commuters with double vaccination doses were traveling in the local trains. The passenger rights groups have requested Western railways to issue ticket to those who are fully vaccinated.

The reports depicted that ticketless passengers were mostly citizens going to their workplace and were desperate to travel. Fined passengers include commuters who were daily wage earners, who don’t want to purchase monthly passes at all.
