The Maldives has announced to reopen its borders for South Asian countries from July 15. The government's decision has been announced by President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih.
Ministry of Tourism
This has come to a huge relief for Indians who have been waiting to travel abroad. The Ministry of Tourism in Male said in a tweet that the only prerequisite is to have a negative RT-PCR test.
“#Maldives will restart issuing of on arrival tourist visa starting July 15 to tourists travelling from South Asia. Tourists need a negative #PCR result to enter Maldives. Further details will follow accordingly,” the tweet reads.
In Maldives, tour operators have already started inviting tourists from India through tweets calling it a ‘Trip to Adventure’.
Economy of Maldives
The economy of Maldives is majorly dependent upon tourism. The country has been waiting for the situation to ease so that business can be restarted. During the early stages of Covid-19 second wave, Male was almost the last destination to close its borders to tourism but it has taken a huge economical hit due to the pandemic.
