The sacred doors of Kedarnath temple will be reopened for devotees this year from May 6.

As per a recent announcement, the sacred doors of Kedarnath temple will be reopened for devotees this year from May 6 at 6:25 AM. As per the reports, on Tuesday, a brief religious ceremony was conducted at the Omkareshwar temple on the occasion of Mahashivaratri and the auspicious time and date for the reopening of the sacred temple dedicated to Lord Shiva have been announced.

In this reference, the temple portals will be opened in Vrishchik Lagna, said the Badri-Kedar temple committee official Harish Gaud. He further stated this in the presence of Kedarnath chief priest Rawal Bhimashankar Ling and Badri-Kedar Mandir Samiti president Ajendra Ajay on the said occasion. 

The doors were closed due to winters 

During winters, Omkareshwar temple of Ukhimath is where Kedarnath is worshipped when the gates of the Himalayan temple remain closed keeping in view the snowbound conditions in the area. The doors of the sacred temple were closed on 6 November for six months during the winter season due to snowbound conditions.  

Built in Eighth century AD 

In the eighth century AD, the Kedarnath Temple was built by Jagad Guru Adi Shankaracharya. It is located on the bank of the Mandakini river and being one of the four ancient pilgrimage sites it is referred to as 'Char Dham'. The Char Dham include Yamunotri, Gangotri and Badrinath along with Kedarnath.
