India's First Snow Marathon to take place in Lahaul, Himachal Pradesh

The snow marathon will be more challenging than any other existing formats, and it will improve the runners' caliber, said the reports.

The country’s first-ever Snow Marathon will be organized in Lahaul on March 26 in association with Lahaul and Spiti administration and Reach India.

On Saturday, while addressing a press conference at Palchan near Manali, Lahaul and Spiti deputy commissioner Neeraj Kumar, chief event advisor Col Arun Natarajan, event execution head Rajesh Chand and event founder Gaurav Schimer notified about the details of the event and said that around 10 such snow, ice or winter marathons are conducted across the globe, quoted as saying by TOI. 

He said that this is the first time when a snow marathon will be held in India and the coordinators of the event are trying to conduct it every year as an annual event. This long distance race will be more challenging for Indian sprinters than any other existing format marathon. 

As per the reports, this snow marathon will be more challenging than any other existing formats, and it will improve the runners' caliber. 

Four categories of Snow Marathon 

Reportedly, the Snow Marathon will be conducted in four categories – a full marathon, in which the runners would have to cover a distance of 42 km. However, in the other three categories, the participants have to run in half marathons to cover a distance of 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km. 

The organizers are in a view that such type of marathon will be able to offer an excellent training ground for difficult races in the world.
