Gangotri-Yamunotri Open for Devotees, Kedarnath-Badrinath to Unlock Soon

The doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples are opened for devotees on the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya.

On Tuesday, the Char Dham yatra started as the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples in the Uttarkashi locale opened up for pilgrims at the event of Akshay Tritiya. The doors of Gangotri were opened at 11.15 am and those of Yamunotri were unlocked at 12.15 pm within the sight of thousands of devotees, and administrative and temple panel authorities.

In order to mark the opening of the temple doors, the idols of goddesses Ganga and Yamuna were brought in resplendent carts enriched with flowers from their winter abode before the beginning of Vedic customs by the clerics.

This year, a high number of devotees are likely to visit Char Dham as it is for the first time after 2019 that the yatra has started without the Covid-incited limitations in force. The opening of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples marks the beginning of the Char Dham yatra.

Though an everyday cutoff has been forced on the number of travelers visiting the temples so they do not get bothered due to the restricted convenience accessible for them at the Himalayan altars.

An order has been issued by the Uttarakhand government 

As per an order issued by the Uttarakhand government on April 30, the yatra will begin on May 3 and the daily limit on the number of devotees to visit the sites will be in force for the first 45 days. As per the order, the move has been announced as per the state's geographical conditions, the hotel's capacity, and parking facilities available on the route of Char Dham. 

Kedarnath and Badrinath to open soon 

Kedarnath will be opening on May 6 and Badrinath will be open for devotees on May 8. This year the daily limit on pilgrims has been set to 7,000 for Gangotri, 4000 for Yamunotri, 12,000 for Kedarnath, and 15,000 for Badrinath. To offer the prayers and behold the auspicious event the Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami alongside his wife visited Gangotri.
