Bikaner Express Train Accident: 9 Passengers dead, 70 Injured
A major train accident has occurred in Bikaner Express en route from Patna to Guwahati in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal on Thursday.

On Thursday evening, a major train accident has occurred in Bikaner Express en route from Patna to Guwahati in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. According to media reports, all the 12 coaches of the train derailed on the way in Jalpaiguri. The first available footage shows that the coach has been severely damaged. By the time the police and relief officials reached the spot, the local people themselves took the initiative to help.
The accident
Some coaches have derailed while some have completely overturned. The accident happened just a day before the Bihu festival celebrated in Assam, due to which there is a possibility of more congestion in the train , possibly increasing the death toll and the number of injured.
The death toll in the accident has rose to 9 on Friday, with over 70 people being reported injured. Meanwhile, the Indian Railways has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of deceased in the accident, Rs 1 lakh to the grievously injured and Rs 25,000 for passengers with simple injury.
