Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished his Japanese counterpart Yoshihide Suga ahead of the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony.

The Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony took place at National Stadium. 25-member Indian contingent has participated in the opening ceremony. On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished his Japan's Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga ahead of the Olympics opening ceremony. He said, "we look forward to a season of incredible performances by the world's best sportspersons". 

Being postponed for a year in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Olympics are set to open in Tokyo on Friday. PM Modi tweeted, "We look forward to a season of incredible performances by the world's best sportspersons!" India represented its largest ever contingent of over 120 athletes at the Tokyo Olympics, which also includes the highest female representation of 56 sportspersons. 

For the opening ceremony, this time, India have two torchbearers. Great boxer Mary Kom and men's hockey captain Manpreet Singh are the torchbearers from India. In an attempt to bring in gender parity at the biggest showpiece event, the International Olympic Committee allowed male and female flag bearers for the Tokyo Games opening ceremony. 

At the opening ceremony,the dancers have showcased the Tokyo Games motto- united by emotion, echoing a universal call for diversity and inclusion.
