Rohit Sharma has become the Indian cricket team captain for the upcoming T20I series with New Zealand.

As Virat Kohli has played his last cricket match as Captain, the BCCI has announced Rohit Sharma as the new captain for the Indian cricket team in the upcoming T20I series with New Zealand.
On Tuesday evening, the BCCI has announced a 16-member squad for the three-match T20 series against New Zealand, giving the captaincy to Sharma and making opening partner KL Rahul his deputy. The Indian squad includes Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (Vice-Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Venkatesh Iyer, Yuzvendra Chahal, R Ashwin, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Harshal Patel, Mohd. Siraj.
Some BCCI officials believe, "Kohli can go on to become a doubly dangerous batsman in the shorter formats without the burden of captaincy", reported Times of India. In the New Zealand series of T20I, the first match between India and New Zealand will be played on 17th November 2021 at Jaipur. The second match of the series will be played on 19th November 2021 at Ranchi and the third match of the series will be palyed on 21st November 2021 at Kolkata.
