Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of IPL 2023 and WTC final, he is likely to undergo surgery

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of IPL 2023, according to sources he may have to undergo back surgery to completely recover from the issue, he has been out of action since last September due to a back issue.

As the IPL 2023 is set to begin from March 31st, Bumrah’s injury has come as a big blow to the Mumbai Indians team. Bumrah is likely to miss the World Test Championship final in June too which India is most likely to qualify.

Bumrah has been trying to make a comeback since his injury in last August which ruled him out of the Asia Cup. Initially the injury didn’t seem serious as he was named in India’s T20 World Cup squad in September and even played last two T20Is against Australia on September 23rd and 25th. 3 days later he didn’t play the first T20I against South Africa that’s when it was learnt that he has been taken for scans that revealed a stress-related injury in his back. He was taken to NCA where his injury was confirmed to be serious, Later he was ruled out of T20 World Cup.

Bumrah resumed his rehab in November and started to bowl in mid-December, his progress seemed positive and he was added in the white ball series played in January, he had performed the match simulation exercises in the NCA  but his health issues came back while taking up higher workloads during fitness drills in January.

 The star Indian pacer who has a No.5 position in ICC Test rankings will be out for at least 6 months. A BCCI source stated “Bumrah has been ruled out of the IPL as he will take another six months to come back. Even then, he might or might not make a comeback. The 50- over World cup is the target, but that is also not guaranteed”

If Bumrah fails to recover in time for the ODI World Cup it will be a big jolt to the India squad and the team’s chances of ending the 12yr wait to lift the World Cup title.
