CWG 2022: Indian Women Weightlifter Harjinder Kaur Receives Bronze

Indian weightlifter Harjinder Kaur has won Bronze medal in Women's 71 Kg weightlifting. With this, India's medal tally in CWG 2022 has reached 9.

On day 4 of the ongoing Commonwealth Games at Birmingham, Indian women weightlifter Harjinder Kaur won the Bronze medal in the Women's 71 Kg weightlifting championship. India's medal tally at Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham currently stands at 9. 

With a record weightlift of 212 kg, Harjinder got the third position. The Gold medal in the championship was taken by Sarah Davies from England as she lifted 229 Kg, followed by Canada's Alexis Ashworth who lifted 214 Kg and won the Silver medal. 

Harjinder's scores in the Snatch and the Clean & Jerk round 

In the Snatch round, Harjinder failed to lift 90 kg in her first attempt. However, in the second and third attempts of the Snatch round, she lifted 90 Kg and 93 Kg respectively. In the Clean & Jerk round, Harjinder took her first attempt by lifting a heavy weight of 115 Kg. However, in the second and the third attempt of the Clean & Jerk round, she lifted 116 Kg and 119 Kg respectively.

Harjinder started weightlifting in 2016 

It was in the year 2016 when Harjinder started weightlifting at Punjab University. She belongs to a farmer's family where she is the sole earner. In August 2021, She entered the Indian National Camp Patiala. She won the Silver medal in the 2021 Commonwealth Senior Championship. 

On day 4, Harjinder's win brought the third medal for the nation. Indian Judokas Sushila Devi won the Silver medal in Women's 48 Kg and Weightlifter Vijay Kumar Yadav won the Bronze medal in Men's 60 Kg. 

So far, India's medal tally stands as Gold Medals - 3, Silver Medals - 3, Bronze Medals - 3.
