Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra has shared about his failure at missing out on the chance of becoming India's flag bearer at the initial function of Birmingham Commonwealth Games on Thursday after he suffered a "minor" groin strain during his notable silver medal-winning effort at recently completed World Athletics Championship.

He said in a post, "I am hurt about not being able to defend my title and missing out on another opportunity to represent the nation. I am especially disappointed about losing out on the opportunity to be Team India's flag bearer at the opening ceremony, an honor I was looking forward to having in a few days' time." 

Further, he wrote, "For now, I will focus on my rehabilitation and hope to be back in action very soon. I would like to thank the entire country for all the love and support I've received over the past few days, and urge you all to join me in cheering on my fellow Team India athletes in Birmingham over the coming weeks."

Neeraj is in the recovery mode 

As per sources near Chopra, nothing can be said about his Diamond League interest at this point.

In the Stockholm leg of the Diamond League Meetings on June 30, Chopra had completed second with a best toss of 89.94 m behind Peters who won the occasion with a huge exertion of 90.31m.

Chopra said he had conversations with his help group, the IOA, AFI, and SAI's CAIMS and by and large chose to skirt the CWG, remembering his drawn-out objectives and trying not to gamble any further exacerbation of the injury.
