Rohit Sharma has been appointed as the the new captain of Indian cricket team in ODI cricket. The BCCI took this decision yesterday. Virat Kohli was in charge of India for a very long time. But in the T20 World Cup held in the past, the Indian team could not even reach the semi-finals, due to which questions were raised on his captaincy. Although Virat had already decided to give up his captaincy from T20 after the World Cup.

As reported by TOI, "the BCCI asked Virat Kohli to announce his decision of stepping down as India’s ODI captain ahead of the squad announcement for the South African tour. The BCCI waited for 48 hours but Virat insisted on staying the ODI skipper and thus, the BCCI had to forcibly announce Rohit as the new ODI captain."

Virat Kohli had a dream that he would captain the team in the ODI Cricket World Cup to be held in 2023, but his dream will not be fulfilled now. BCCI believes that only one player should captain the team in T20 and ODI team. Because of which the BCCI took this decision and the captaincy of the team was snatched from Virat Kohli. However, he will continue the captaincy of the Test team.
