Every year, July 16 is observed as World Snake Day. It is celebrated to spread awareness about snakes and misconceptions about them. The snake is one of those creatures with the most misconceptions in the world. This day is dedicated for an opportunity to inform people about the species of snakes.
In India, the snakes are considered equal to God in India. Snakes are considered to be one of the oldest creatures in the world. Its mention will be found in almost every civilization of the world. There are about 3458 species of snakes in the world today. Found in every desert and ocean, from the icy tundra of northern Canada to the green forests of the Amazon. They are very agile hunter-gatherers, but play an important role in maintaining balance in nature.
It is believed that the presence of snakes in the fields is a good sign. These creatures eat rats, which are considered to be very powerful enemies of grain and are infamous around the world for destroying crops. Many farmers in the world keep snakes to protect their crops.
They swallow their prey (insects) whole because their lower jaw is different from the upper jaw. Many snakes have poison in their hood due to which their bite can make a person die on the spot. They bite with their teeth and inject poison into the body of the creature when they feel threatened.
