On 31st May, World No Tobacco Day is observed every year. Various events are organised to sensitize people about ill - impacts of tobacco.

Every year World No Tobacco Day is celebrated on May 31 to create and awareness among people about the ill effects of tobacco and it's related products.

World No Tobacco Day has been initiated in 1988 by World Health Organization (WHO). In 1987 the day was proposed to be celebrated by the Member States of WHO to draw global attention towards the tobacco health impacts. As recurrent use of tobacco can be deadly for humans causing serious health conditions.

Theme of the day for 2021

This year the theme of World No Tobacco Day is "Commit To Quit". 

As reported by WHO, the global pandemic Covid-19 has impacted millions of tobacco users to quit among which 60% users around the world have shown their willingness to quit smoking. 

Why this theme?

According to a study conducted by The Lancet "One in six non-communicable disease related to deaths are attributed to smoking tobacco." The study also found that "Over the past three decades, more than 200 million deaths have been caused by smoking tobacco and economical costs have exceeded US $1 trillions due to tobacco smoking."
