Every year, World Hepatitis Day is observed on July 28 with an aim to create awareness about viral hepatitis. Hepatitis is a disease in which there is an inflammation in the liver that leads to chronic disease and liver cancer.
Significance of the Day
The infection can be caused due to various reasons like food or water which is contaminated with Hepatitis or any kind of contact with Hepatitis. Excessive consumption of alcohol is also one of the main causes of Hepatitis as it directly disturbs the working of the liver which makes the organ weaker and prone to catching the virus.
The day is chosen to be celebrated on July 28 to recognize the birth anniversary of Nobel-prize winner scientist Dr. Baruch Blumberg. He discovered the virus Hepatitis B and developed a vaccine for the same.

The theme of the Day
For 2022, the theme for World Hepatitis Day is set by the World Health Organization (WHO) as, "Bringing Hepatitis care closer to you." The purpose of this year's theme is to create awareness among people about the necessity to simplify access to primary hepatitis care facilities at community-based venues and locations that are beyond hospital sites, said WHO.
