Every year, World Hearing Day is observed on March 3 to create an awareness to prevent deafness and hearing loss. The observance of this day promotes ear and hearing care across the globe. Every year, the theme of the day is decided by the World Health Organization (WHO) and materials like brochures, flyers, posters, banners and presentations are prepared to educate people about the cause.

History and Significance of the Day

On March 3 in 2007, the WHO observed World Hearing Day for the first time. In 2016, the International Ear Care Day was decided to be declared as World Hearing Day. People with hearing disabilities and difficulties find it really hard to interact with other people and share the thoughts. In order to get rid of this problem World Hearing Day is celebrated. Across the globe, almost 360 million people are suffering from hearing disabilities and hearing loss.

Theme of the Day for 2022

For the year 2022, the WHO has set the theme of the day as “to hear for life, listen with care". The focus will be on the importance and means of hearing loss prevention through safe listening as means of maintaining good hearing through out the life.

In 2021, WHO launched a World report on hearing which highlighted the increasing number of people living at risk of hearing loss.
