Today is the 75th death anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India.

Today is the death anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India, popularly known as Iron man. Sardar Patel was born on 31 October 1875 in district Kheda, Gujarat. He died on 15 December 1950 in Mumbai due to a heart attack. On the 75th death anniversary of Sardar Patel, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have expressed their views on social media while paying tribute to him.

M. Venkaiah Naidu tweeted saying, "Remembering the iconic freedom fighter, 'Iron Man of India' #SardarVallabhbhaiPatel on his Punya Tithi today. He was a towering statesman and an illustrious leader who cared deeply for the welfare of the farmers and worked incessantly for the uplift of the downtrodden. The 'Unifier of India', Sardar Patel played a monumental role in the peaceful integration of over 560 princely states. His legendary life continues to inspire every Indian to work towards strengthening the unity & integrity of the nation and eliminating social evils from society." 


PM Narendra Modi paid tribute 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tribute to Sardar Patel through Twitter. He wrote, "Remembering Sardar Patel on his Punya Tithi. India will always be grateful to him for his monumental service, his administrative skills and the untiring efforts to unite our nation." 


Sardar Patel - A symbol of unity

Describing Sardar Patel as a symbol of India's unity, Home Minister Amit Shah said, "It is unfortunate that efforts were made to forget Sardar Saheb. After independence, his contributions were never given proper respect and place. He was neither conferred the Bharat Ratna (the country's highest civilian honour), nor proper respect. But it is said, how long can clouds keep the sun hidden."
