For your information, let us tell you that the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, in the Hindi Literature Conference being held in 1918, had called Hindi language as the language of the masses. In 1949, after much deliberation, Hindi was given the status of a national language in Article 343(1) of Chapter 17 of the Indian Constitution. Hindi language is spoken in most places of India, due to which it got the status of national language. In the same year 1965, in the month of January, the people of Tamil Nadu had also staged a lot of protest, but after much deliberation, the matter was resolved.
