Nation celebrates Bakrid, Feast of Sacrifice, President and PM greets people

Followers of Islam religion celebrate two main festivals, Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha. Eid-ul-Fitr also known as Mithi Eid in India and Eid-ul-Adha is known as Bakrid. The festival of Eid is observed to spread the message of loving the most. Bakrid, the day of sacrifice gives the message of trusting in Allah.
Message of the festival
Eid-ul-Azha spreads the message of fulfilling one's duty. This festival symbolises the faith in Allah. It also teaches us to fulfill our duty.
Celebration of the festival
This festival is observed as per the Islamic calendar. This festival falls about 70 days after the holy month of Ramadan. As sacrifice, Goat or any other animal is sacrificed on this festival.
Importance of the festival
This festival is very special for Muslims. It is observed in the memory of Prophet Abraham's sacrifice of his son Ismail towards Allah. According to Islamic texts, Prophet Abraham was a firm believer of Allah. As per the legends, Abraham was about to sacrifice his son, Isaac when an angel appeared in front of him and stopped him from doing so. It was told to him that God was convinced of his love for him and hence, he should never sacrifice a human life in the name of God. Taking this as the basis, animals are sacrificed on the day of Bakrid.
Greetings from the leaders
On Wednesday, President Ram Nath Kovid, Vice-president Venkaiah Naidu and other leaders shared greetings to the people celebrating Eid-al-Adha or the ‘Feast of Sacrifice’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished people on Eid-ul-Adha and hoped that the ‘day spirit of collective empathy, harmony and inclusivity in the service of greater good.’
President Kovind shared, “Eid-uz-Zuha is a festival to express regard for the spirit of love and sacrifice, and to work together for unity and fraternity in an inclusive society.”
Vice President of India, Naidu, posted from his official Twitter handle, “Eid-ul-Zuha, the festival of sacrifice, exemplifies ultimate devotion to God. May this Eid bring peace, harmony and happiness in our lives.”
The newly appointed Deputy Leader of Rajya Sabha, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, tweeted series of pics offering Namaz and wrote: “Keeping in view Corona protocol, today I offered Namaz at my residence on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha and prayed for good health and well-being of people of the country and humanity of the entire world.”
