Parts of North and Northwest India are likely to receive rain again this week as heavy rains are forecasted in the region from Tuesday, September 7. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Monsoon Trough is passing through the center of a low pressure area over Bikaner, Kota, Betul, Brahmapuri, Jagdalpur and west-central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal. In addition, a cyclonic circulation lies over Northwest Rajasthan and adjoining Punjab. Under the combined effect of these meteorological conditions, rainfall activity is expected to increase over the northwestern states, with scattered to fairly widespread rain likely to occur.

Heavy rainfall

Heavy rain will occur at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and East Rajasthan from Tuesday to Friday, September 7-10. Very heavy rains may occur at isolated places over Uttarakhand between Wednesday and Saturday, while similar conditions are likely to prevail over East Rajasthan on Friday and Saturday, September 10-11. In view of these predictions, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have all been placed on a yellow watch (to be 'updated' on local weather conditions) for Tuesday.

For Uttarakhand, the advisory will be upgraded to an orange alert, urging residents to be 'ready' for inclement weather. The North Indian state will maintain this alert till Saturday, September 11. The adjacent state of Himachal Pradesh will also be placed under orange alert on Thursday. Meanwhile, Delhi is likely to witness a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain for the next 3-4 days. The day's maximum temperature in the capital is likely to be around 34 degree Celsius.
