Till now RT-PCR swab test is required to check the positivity of the corona infection in the patient's body. Scientists at the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur have discovered a new method of RT-PCR testing under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). Any person will be able to perform the test in just three hours. Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Health Minister, said, "This method can be a game changer".

The test has been approved by ICMR, Indian Council of Medical Research. The Times of India quoted Dr. Krishna Kumar Kaimar, Senior Scientist, Environmental Virology Cell, as "This method of collecting and processing samples will prepare it to save the cost of extracting RNA. Since this method is of self-sampling, people can check their infection themselves." "There is no need to queue or crowd at centres. Also, time will be saved and the risk of infection will also be reduced. This method will also reduce the waste."

Method of testing

In the swab test, the sample is taken from the nose and the throat of the person. However, in the new method, gargle is the method. The 'Saline Gargle' method will include a tube. One needs to put the saline in the mouth and gargle for 15 seconds. Then spit the liquid into the tube and send it for the examination. The sample will be kept in the lab at room temperature in a solution prepared by NEERI. RNA template will be prepared after heating the solution.

Results in 15 minutes

The Covicelf kit has been approved by ICMR for the self testing of Covid-19 at home. As per the user manual, "Apply the nasal swab at a distance of 2 to 4 cm on both the nasal walls. Now, swab the swab 5 times in both the nostrils. Then, insert the swab into the pre-filled tube and break the remaining swab. Close the lid of the tube. After pressing the tube on the test card, pour two drops one after the other and wait for 15 minutes for the result. A rapid antigen test kit has been designed by Pune based MyLab Discovery Solutions Limited.
