Things have only been taking an ugly turn in our country as far as the safety of women is concerned. With the recent cases of Gang rapes in Hathras and Balrampur, leaving many of us shocked and angered, it is high time that we all need to come together in safeguarding the women in our country. And for the same we need to make our girls/women aware of several self-defense techniques which can come in handy at times like these. 

But before we tell you about these self-defense techniques, here’s what you need to know about the Hathras and Balram gang rapes. On September 14, a 19-year-old Dalit girl was raped by 4 Thakur men and her body was thrown in the fields, few days later to the incident the girl died at Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital. While this incident created an uproar in the nation another 22-year-old girl was gang raped by 2 men in UP’s Balrampur. And after raping the girl, the culprits put her body in an autorickshaw and sent her home. The victim also died while she was being taken to the hospital. 

Now if these incidents have angered you, then here are 5 self-defense techniques you should learn or teach the women around you…

Always carry a self-defense weapon

Our safety is in our hands and this has to be a literal term for many ladies, which is why in order to give these predators a tough time you should always carry a sharp object like a knife or cutter, or even a heavy metal object with you, for any such dangerous and unexpected encounters. Never forget to keep a pepper spray handy.  

Educate yourself about the weak spots 

Everyone has a weak point and so does your attacker, no matter their size you can always pin them down if you know where to hit them back. The eyes, nose, knees, chest, throat and groin (between the legs) are the vulnerable spots which leave the man crying on the floor. So keep your self-aware about where to hit you attacker, and after than run as fast as you can. 

Take them surprise, also practice target denial

In dangerous situations, the smartest thing to do is trust your instincts. And while you do that practicing target denial is also important, what we mean is, if you feel something is wrong or someone is chasing you, don’t be an accessible target. Start walking on the other side of the lane or pretend to talk loudly over the phone or try and enter a building or hotel premises asking for help. And in case you still get in trouble, take your attacker y surprise, attack back when they don’t expect you to, now you even know the vulnerable spots. 

Always opt for a hammer strike or a groin kick

These are the best two self-defence moves you can try, in the hammer strike you hit the nose hard, with a pointed ring or keys in your finger. And the groin kick is when you either kick hard between the legs or pinch there, these two easiest tricks will help you stay safe always. 

Use the gift of voice

If ever, you are not able to get out of a situation at all, the best you can do is to scream and gather people around. This might scare the attacker and if he tries to cover your mouth you can always bite them.
