Ganesh Chaturthi 2021: Auspicious Time, Puja Vidhi and other details

In India the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm. This year, the 11 day festival starts today on September 10, and will continue till September 21. On this day, people worship Lord Ganesh. These festivities are mainly arranged in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. 

Legend of Lord Ganesha 

According to Hindu mythological texts, it is believed that once Goddess Parvati was going to take a bath. She made an effigy out of the filth of her body and breathed life into it. Mother Parvati appointed him as the gatekeeper for the protection of the house. Because Ganesh ji did not know anything, following the orders of Mother Parvati, he stopped Lord Shiva from entering the house. In anger, Lord Shiva cut off Ganesha's head. Seeing Ganesh in this condition, Mother Parvati became very sad and got angry. For the remedy, Lord Shiva attached the head of an elephant i.e. Gaj on the torso of Ganesha. After which he was named Gajanan. 

Shubh Muhurat (Auspicious Time) 

In 2021, ‘Chaturthi Tithi’ will start at 12:17am on September 10 and will continue till 10pm. On this day, devotees  get up early and take a bath, then the temple in the house should be cleaned properly. ‘Durva Ghas’, ‘Ladoos’ and ‘Modaks’ are offered to Lord Ganesh. Then the Aarti is performed to worship Lord Ganesh. 

Significance of the festival 

It is believed that worshipping Lord Ganesh brings happiness, peace and prosperity in life. In 'Sanaatan Dharma', Lord Ganesh is worshipped before beginning any good work. 

Puja Vidhi

In Hindu religion, it is believed that worshiping lord Ganesh with devotion helps in resolving all the problems. Lord Ganesh’s Idol, water kalash, 'Panchamrit', red cloth, 'roli, 'Akshat', 'Kalava janeoo', cardamom, coconut, 'Chandi vark', 'supari', 'laung', 'panchmeva', 'ghee kapoor', 'chauki' and 'gangajal' need to be kept for completing the worshipping method.
