Believed as a significant festival by Muslims, Eid-Al-Fitr is also known as Meethi Eid. Devotees offer prayers to god in the morning to celebrate the festival. People celebrate the festival by wearing new clothes and hugging each other while exchanging gifts and blessings. On account of Eid-Al-Fitr, Bhagwan Parshuram Jayanti, Basava Jayanti, and Akshaya Tritiya there will be an off for Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) on May 3. Banks all over India will also remain closed. 

When and how to celebrate the Festival? 

As per the Islamic calendar, this year Eid-Al-Fitr will be celebrated on May 3, 2022, as the crescent moon was not sighted on Sunday evening. Meethi Eid is observed every year on the first day of the tenth month of the Islamic calendar, known as Shawwal.

Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali announced via his Twitter handle, "The crescent moon of the Islamic Month of Shawwal could not be spotted today, announced Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali. Eid Ul Fitr is to be celebrated in India on 3rd May. #EidUlFitr #EidMubarak2022 #EidMubarak." 


Across the globe, Eid-Al-Fitr will be celebrated by the Islamic community through communal prayers, celebratory gatherings, festive meals, and new clothes. The festivities will take place along with following the Covid-19 protocol as the cases have started to surge again globally.

Marking the end of the Roza from dawn to dusk during Ramadan, the festival is marked by observing full-day fasts. Devotees observe fasts to extend gratitude and pay respects to god for providing them strength and endurance during the fasting month.
