With continuous snowfall on the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for the last few days, the effect of cold can be felt in the plain areas of the country. As predicted by IMD, there are chances of rain in several states which includes Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand and UP. 

North India 

On the New Year's Eve, almost the whole of North India has come in the grip of cold wave. Since then, mountain areas like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are witnessing heavy snowfall, whereas some plain areas including Delhi have been receiving rain for the last two days. On Thursday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain in many states including Delhi. The IMD also said that snowfall may continue in the hilly states. 

Rainfall predicted 

As per the forecast of the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain in many areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, North Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, South Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Madhya Pradesh and East Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

The IMD 

The Meteorological Department has predicted that there is a possibility of heavy snowfall in the states adjoining the Himalayan region. Apart from this, the Meteorological Department has also predicted heavy rains in many areas of Central India and North West India between 7 and 9 January. According to the IMD, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on January 8 as well. 


Madhya Pradesh


There is a possibility of rain in Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha as well. The hilly districts of Uttarakhand received heavy snowfall for the second consecutive day on Wednesday and the cold in the low-lying areas intensified. Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttarkashi district also experienced snowfall for the second consecutive day.
