Weather Update: Heatwave Conditions to Prevail, Mercury to reach 45 Degrees Celsius
The temperature is expected to reach 45 degrees Celsius. The month will worsen heatwave conditions, says IMD.

The areas of Delhi NCR are witnessing heatwave conditions again. As per the weather forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature is likely to reach up to 45 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday. The Met department has issued a yellow alert for the people of Delhi NCR to stay protected from the prevailing heatwave conditions.
On Thursday, the temperatures in the national capital reached up to 44-45 degrees Celsius. At the base station of Delhi, Safdarjung Observatory, the maximum temperature was recorded at 42.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday, and on Wednesday, the maximum temperature reached 41.4 degrees Celsius.
The temperature in different areas in Delhi
In other areas of Delhi, the maximum temperature was recorded as 44.7 degrees Celsius in Najafgarh, 45.4 degrees Celsius in Mungeshpur, and 44 degrees Celsius in Pitampura, which is five degrees above the normal temperature.
On Sunday, the maximum temperature is likely to reach 45 degrees Celsius and the IMD has issued an orange alert to warn people about the soaring temperatures.
Statement by the officials
As quoted by Hindustan Times, an official said, "The mercury is predicted to touch the 45-degree mark at the Safdarjung Observatory on Sunday. This is the first heatwave spell of May so far, which has largely been helped by western disturbances."
On Wednesday, the heatwave conditions were recorded in areas of western Rajasthan and western Madhya Pradesh.
The Vice President of Skymet, a private weather forecasting agency said, "easterly winds prevailing in the region under the impact of Cyclone Asani are keeping the mercury in check. Without the easterly winds, temperatures would have leaped to 46-47 degrees Celsius."
