Weather Update: Delhi Welcomes Monsoon With Heavy Rainfall

On Thursday morning, the national capital received its first monsoonal rainfall, the temperature was recorded at 27.6 degrees Celsius.

On Thursday morning, the residents of Delhi woke up to heavy rainfall as the monsoon has entered the city. This has brought a much-needed respite from tormenting heatwave conditions that were prevailing for the last 2-3 months. 

An orange alert has been issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for rainfall in the national capital on Thursday. By July 1, the city is likely to record a dip in temperature at 33-34 degrees Celsius. 


Further, the MeT department has predicted the weather for the day, there will be thunderstorms followed by light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds speeding up to 30-40 kmph to take place over the entire Delhi and NCR including Ghaziabad, Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Chhapraula, Indirapuram, Noida, Dadri, Gurugram, Greater Noida, Manesar, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh.

Prediction of Monsoon arrival 

In the morning, as the city receives its first monsoonal rainfall, the temperature was recorded at 27.6 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, in the weather prediction, Senior scientist at IMD, R K Jenamani said that there is a possibility of good rainfall in the national capital on June 30. The arrival of the monsoon can be declared by Thursday or Friday. 

In 2021, the IMD forecasted the arrival of the monsoon two weeks earlier than its usual date which is June 27. However, the monsoon arrived in Delhi on July 13. 

Assam Floods Situation 

On Wednesday, the situation in Assam developed due to floods worsened as 12 people lost their lives and the number of affected people rose to 31.5 lakh. As per the officials, it's been 10 days since Silchar town in the Cachar district is remaining underwater. As per a bulletin issued by Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 11 people lost their lives due to floods and 1 person died due to landslides.
